James (and the world) must face the fact
That into a corner they're backed.
Self harm; prayer; drinking ...
Ambitious film of Winton's short story collection.
With themes of family, home and connection.
Visually beautiful and expressive,
And so coherent, which is impressive ...
It's such a devastating indictment on their humanity:
That these 'gangsters' were capable of such depravity.
Though it's disturbing to digest
The words of Anwar and the rest,
Please see this important doco of significant gravity.
Due to his past films, hopes were high,
For Almodóvar's new one (set in the sky).
A bit of a fun lark,
But so much missed the mark,
Unfortunately: overall, it just didn't fly.
Fine performances, intrigue to a high degree,
And there's beautifully exquisite art to see.
Script: at times implausible and odd.
(But it throws in more than one nice nod:
Hugo, Vertigo, Dickens, Cyrano de B)
This gothic mystery thriller is sure to hook.
What's up with Charlie? Is he some sort of crook?
Keep your eyes peeled,
As all will be revealed.
The film's well shot and has a beautiful look.
Luke and Kate work together, surrounded by beer,
And they drink lots of it too, it would appear.
The film avoids cliche,
Though it could have gone that way.
As they're unsuited to their partners, it's clear.
Dad's too busy, mum's too flighty & wild:
They're crappy parents with a delightful child.
Powerful film, full of emotion.
Luckily, there's her steps' devotion ...
Cautionary tale for every muso chick or dude:
Be careful you don't get sued.
The 'supportive big record label'
Is an impossible fable.
They'll ensure that the artist gets screwed!
Film directing: it's the family biz.
Everyone's seems to be a friend of his.
A name-dropper extraordinaire,
But it's non-wanky, so you won't care.
And it fills his stories with sparkle and fizz!
It's an achievement to come back alive,
As, statistically, a quarter don't survive ...
About their dad they're in the dark,
And on a journey they embark ...
It's just about the last taboo:
Something you just don't do.
The revelations she was telling ...
To this small town he came,
With Father in front of his name.
This Polish priest:
Needs his guilt released,
So he can live his life without shame.
These women are truly brave rebels,
And the orthodoxy think that they're devils.
Their government want to preach,
And don't care about free speech.
The charges got out of hand, on multiple levels!
He paints with boxer's glove,
In their ramshackle apartment above ...
Two ex-cons in the countryside,
Flo's got enemies and has to hide.
Wasn't sold.
It left me cold.
Just didn't appeal (I really tried!)
So the movie business had changed to its core,
And here's Ms Wright as you've never seen her before.
You see, Robin didn't count ...
Jung: adopted when he was very young,
And into a new world he was flung.
His art: a whimsical delight,
It tells his story of dark and light.
And along the way, he lost his mother tongue.
Father Bob: a national treasure.
Worked hard all his life: no leisure.
To his parish he was hitched,
But Archbishop wanted him ditched.
Bob's outspoken: a legend by every measure.
